Pedro Machado
Research Assistant
In 2008 I
finished a degree in Anatomical Pathology in Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde do Porto. During
my degree, I was also an undergraduate trainee at the Advanced Tissue Analysis Facility, Instituto
de Biologia Molecular e Celular (IBMC), Universidade do Porto.
During my traineeship at the IBMC I learned Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) techniques, and did Immuno-EM on mice samples.
Since I joined the CCR Lab I have been optimizing Electron Microscopy techniques for Drosophila melanogaster samples in order to perform ultrastructural analysis of centrioles, basal bodies, and axonemes.
If you enjoy and are familiar with ultrastructrure data, then you know that centrioles look awesome when analyzed by TEM, so being able to study such "eye candy" organelles gives me a lot of work motivation.
